Mastermind viewers broke down in tears as a contestant shared a

Clive Myrie hosts the classic quiz where contenders take the famous black
chair under the glare of the spotlight, hoping to become the Mastermind
champion.

This week the episode featured four contestants - Kaushik, Rachel, Laura, and
John - with each of them picking a specialist subject.

School administrator John led at the end of the show after scoring 24 points
with his subject Red Rum and secured a chance at the semi finals.

At the end of the episode John poignantly shared that his late wife had
encouraged him to apply for the show before her passing.

Clive Myrie hosts the classic quiz where contenders take the famous black

He sweetly said: 'Never in my wildest dreams would I ever think I'd be
standing here!'

Clive then said to him: 'You've done it, you've got 24 points.'

John then responded: 'I was very much instructed by my wife to apply. And if
you knew Caroline, you wouldn't have any doubt that I duly applied.

'But it was sad, my darling wife Caroline unfortunately died as the show was
about to be made. So this one is for you, Caro.'

Fans were left in tears after the emotional moment as they penned on X: 'The
man who won Mastermind tonight said his wife died just before the show was
filmed and it was all for her I can't deal with this.',

'Did not have getting emotional at an episode of #mastermind on my 2024 bingo
card. John you are a wee dote. I hope your lovely wife is watching down on you
smiling!',

'Oh John. Caroline would have been so proud of you.',

'Wasn't expecting that bombshell John, my fave subject ever, Rummy of course,
and then the close, I'm not welling up!!! #mastermind.'

It comes after last month Clive apologised after failing to declare at least
£65,000 of earnings from corporate events.

The Mastermind host earned the money from corporate events over the last 12
months, including speeches at functions hosted by Dutch• Нидерланды bank ING• Объект бренды » Бренды на i » ING and the Royal
College of Surgeons.

earning between £5,000 and £10,000 for nine of them, and over £10,000 for the

Events for which he was paid included the British Insurance• Страхование Brokers'
Association conference, which was previously hosted by his colleague,
disgraced newsreader Huw Edwards.

But his list omitted eleven gigs, including keynote speeches at the Coventry
and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce's annual business• Экономика » Бизнес conference and Legal
& General Investment Management's UK• Великобритания Wholesale Conference.

He also chaired a debate at a GreenTalks Live event at the Isle of Man Energy
& Sustainability Centre and hosted a lunch for the Intermediary Mortgage
Lenders Association.

Industry and Commerce conference in June.

They added that there was 'quite a bit of bitterness' over the issue, which
